Episode 4 - "Dragon Attack" - 6.12.22
Upon entering the Greenest Temple of Chauntea, the party members speak with an older cleric who asks for their assistance in saving the dozens of citizens trapped inside. The adventurers decide to sneak the citizens out the backdoor while the remaining raiders are temporarily unable to view their presence. On their way back, the party locates the four young people hiding in the bushes near the river and retrieve their unconscious cultist prisoner. They manage to successfully sneak the citizens and the cleric inside the citadel tunnel without notice from roaming cultist raiders; however, Furret is caught unaware by a blue foggy haze, from a magic grenade, rolling over the hills from the town center. Once safe back inside the citadel and while Guard Hagan retrieves Governor Nighthill, the party speaks briefly with a mysterious whistling prisoner locked in one of the cells. The prisoner claims his innocence and attempts to bargain for his freedom with a unique spinning trinket on his person. Rowan removes Talik from interrogating after the Aarakocra’s attempts prove to be too aggressive. However, Dorugul, through flattery of the cultist's ego, learns that the raiders are part of the Cult of Dragons, aiming to gather loot for a great hoard in which to usher in the return of Tiamat, a dragon known as the Queen of Evil Dragons. Their cult, led by Lord Severin Silrajin, is raiding Greenest under the coordination of Langdedrosa Cyanwrath, a dragonborn, and Frulam Mondath, the woman in charge Nighthill spotted from the paraphet. Riggie informs the group of a childhood story where Tiamat is said to be currently imprisoned in the Nine Hells. While most of the party is distracted by the interrogation, Furret and Roel sneak away to speak to the whistling prisoner, promising him an escape in exchange for his unique trinket. Rowan, sensing the absence of Furret and Roel to be concerning, informs that Nighthill should post additional guards to watch the mysterious prisoner. Not long into the interrogation, Castellan Escobert informs the group that the dragon has begun its attack on the citadel. While rushing to the paraphet to defend the citadel, Furret deftly grabs the cell block key from Guard Hagan. Emerging to the top of the paraphet, the adventurers are greeted with the sight, sound, and wind of an enormous blue dragon, Lennithon spearing guards and dropping them from great heights. The party immediately goes on the attack, except for Furret whose fear overcomes him as he hides in the courtyard below "searching for arrows" during the first half of combat. Riggie, also washed with fear, manages to master his emotions enough to aid in attacking the formidable beast flying above them. After several party members manage to overcome mortal injuries, including Rowan, Dorugul, Talik, and Furret, they managed to inflict enough damage that the clearly disinterested Lennithon flies away, leaving the carnage of the citadel and Greenest behind. As they begin bandaging their injured, they group wonders whether there will be any rest this night… |
